At TinkerMill, we currently have a single TAZ tool head, which is the LulzBot HE. The HE sports a E3D Titan Aero Extruder with a 0.5mm hardened steel nozzle to be used with 2.85mm diameter filament, which allows for a print layer resolution between 0.4 - 0.6mm. You can print with a wide variety of materials such as nylon, PLA, and carbon-filled nylon. The hot end temperature range can be adjusted between 248 and 554°F for optimal filament compatibility. The onboard fan duct mounts use airflow analysis to ensure even 360° part cooling for better printing quality.

Description

The TAZ Workhorse is a Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) 3D printer that uses filament deposition to create three dimensional objects. This printer features a large build volume, automatic calibration, a heated borosilicate glass build plate, and swappable tool heads.

Features

The TAZ Workhorse has the following features:

  • Large build volume: 280 mm x 280 mm x 285 mm (11.02" x 11.02" x 11.22")
  • Single extruder that takes 2.85mm filament
  • Self-levelling bed
  • Built-in nozzle wiper pad and wiper routine
  • Superior hot-end with 0.5mm nozzle that supports temps to 290° C
  • Heated borosilicate glass build plate with Polyetherimide (PEI) bed liner
  • Marlin firmware

Tool Head

At TinkerMill, we currently have a single TAZ tool head, which is the LulzBot HE. The HE sports a E3D Titan Aero Extruder with a 0.5mm hardened steel nozzle to be used with 2.85mm diameter filament.

Tool Head Specs

  • Single extruder
  • 0.5mm HST nozzle
  • print layer resolution 0.4mm - 0.6mm
  • max temp: 290°C (554°F)

Do NOT remove the nozzle from the extruder. There should be no need to swap out the nozzle and it must be set to a specific torque for proper operation. If the nozzle becomes clogged, do not use the machine and contact a Shop Captain so that maintenance can be performed.

Software

Models should be sliced using Cura Lulzbot Edition (LE) which is a version of Cura that has been specifically customized for use LulzBot products. The software is free and can be downloaded from their website.

The slicer automatically inserts the gcode instructions to wipe the nozzle and level the bed before each print and to move the bed forward when it has cooled to the optimal temperature for part removal.

If you choose to install Cura LE on your own device, you should use these machine settings when adding a printer: TAZ Workhorse, HE | 0.5mm | Hardened SST, with Graphical LCD.

In Memoriam

The TAZ Workhorse was donated to TinkerMill by member Brian Saul who passed away in 2023. He loved TinkerMill and wanted us to have his best gear.
