The dust collector is an essential tool in the wood shop. Be sure to use it.

To clean the dust collector, be sure to wear a respirator, and then

  1. Take off the filter;
  2. Dump what you can in the trash;
  3. With the filter upside down, tap the edges firmly but not too hard to dislodge the dust; and
  4. Dump it out again.

Repeat the last two steps until the filter is clean.

The filter is expensive and can be ruined if torn (don't rub the shop vac against it), or if the outer metal mesh is bent (don't tap too hard).
