General
TinkerMill has a small vented spray booth in the Paint Shop. This booth can accomodate items up to approximately 46" wide by 22" deep by 16" tall. Only approved low VOC spray paints and similar products are allowed to be used in the booth.
Note: Certification training will be required for the spray booth in the near future. In the meantime, we are soliciting feedback about the set-up and usage policies. If you have feedback, please contact the shop captain.
Spray Booth Safety Checklist
- The spray booth may only be used by TinkerMill members and guests who have completed a liability waiver.
- DO NOT smoke or vape at any time while working in the Paint Shop.
- DO NOT use unapproved paints or chemicals in the spray booth. If you cannot purchase the product at a hardware store in Boulder County, it cannot be used without prior approval from a shop captain.
- DO NOT attempt to paint items that are too big to fit in the booth. The workpiece may extend outside of the booth only if it is properly secured to prevent the item from falling out of the booth.
- Note the location of fire extinguishers and other safety equipment in the shop.
- Wear proper personal protective equipment, including eye protection, ear protection, an N-95 or similar mask, and disposable gloves. A shop apron or painting smock is recommended to protect clothing. Note: Masks and protective clothing are not currently provided by TinkerMill and you must bring your own. Other PPE is located in the blue cabinet.
- Ensure that the work area is clear of obstacles and trip hazards. Be aware of your surroundings and other activities happening in the shop while working at the spray booth.
- Turn on the blower and ensure proper air flow out the vent. If paint and/or fumes accumulate in the hood, turn off the system and do not use until the problem is corrected. If there is no visible obstruction to air flow, it may be time to replace the filter media. In that event, notify a shop captain and do not use.
- Turn off the blower when work is complete.
- If used properly, there should be no clean up necessary. However, if paint does get outside of the booth, it must be cleaned up immediately.
- Items that are left to dry should be placed on a drying rack with a ticket that shows the date and the owner’s name and phone number. Keep the drying rack covered to prevent dust and debris from contaminating workpieces. Unlabeled items or items that are left in the shop for more than 3 days may be disposed of at the discretion of the shop captains.
