(The blacksmithing shop is located in the back bay area adjacent to the welding shop. We have several gas forges, a coal forge, several anvils and a power hammer. We are always looking to add equipment and tools when we can. Our group communicates through the blacksmithing channel on Slack.)

Education

A. Prerequisites

(There is a shop safety class including lighting the gas forges that must be completed before you can use the shop. There is also a power tool class covering drill presses, angle grinders and cut off saw/band saw.)

B. Course Listing

(Other classes include but are not limited to: Basic blacksmithing, where you will learn basic hammer control, make some small but useful items and a few techniques.

Heat Treating, here you will learn what is happening at the atomic level when you are heat treating, how and when to heat treat, and how to achieve the desired results.

Monthly workshops and demonstrations by Blacksmiths from around the country and state. (seasonal) These can be as short as 2 hours or as long as 6. Topics are at the discretion of the demonstrator.

Resources: There is a digital library where you can look at and review public domain publications and reference materials. ))

Teaching is sharing and inspiring others to learn and share. Here are a few ways this can be accomplished:

Equipment & Tools

(Tinker Mill currently has the following tools and equipment: Gas forges, coal forge. several anvils big and small. 250 lbs Little Giant power hammer Layout tables and post vice.)

Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Please keep all work ares clean and free from debris.
  • Return all tools to its designated place.
  • Place trash in appropriate receptacles.
  • Sweep and vacuum as necessary.
